  * e.g.,  ... I gave Carl a fair shake in being my friend. He blew it. I went to the gym for three months, I gave it a fair shake.

1: Synonymous with fair go i.e. a chance

  * e.g.,  ... Speaking to Sky News after the swearing in of new ministers, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd rejected the view that not enough women were promoted. "If you were to compare what this Government has done in terms of the promotion of women of talent and ability compared with our predecessors, it's chalk and cheese."
